Matthew has been a member of the Chester County Art Association since 1988 and has received numerous recognitions in the association’s juried shows. He attended the Maryland Institute’s College of Art and holds a BFA degree from the Philadelphia College of Art, where he earned a scholarship in watercolor. He twice received the Charles G. Shaw award from the Brooklyn College, where he earned his MFA in 1981. His teachers there included Lennart Anderson, Sam Gelber and Lois Dodd. A lifelong student of light and color, Matthew has pursued studies at the Art Students’ League, the School of Visual Arts in New York and the Rhode Island School of Design, among other schools. He describes his artistic inspiration as “finding visual stimulus, as revealed by light.”
